Atlantis Maintenance Completed

Date: 24 Jul 2011

Insight Marine were pleased to play their part in the successful recovery and subsequent deployment of Atlantis Resources' AR1000 tidal turbine at the EMEC test site, Orkney, this summer.

Short notice mobilisation of a survey spread to the AHTS Olympic Zeus provided surface and subsea feedback for the onboard ROV team and vessel DP crew to carry out the delicate extraction process of the device from its gravity base.

Mojo Maritime Ltd provided marine operations support during the recovery, Insight Marine's provision of survey equipment and personnel contributed to completion of the project in record time.

Insight Marine Projects were again contracted a week later to provide equipment and personnel during re-deployment of the device after dockside repairs had been completed in Kirkwall, Orkney.

Deployment was carried out using the OCV Boa Deep C and her onboard ROV spread. Again mobilisation was requested at short notice, something which Insight was able to respond to within the tight timeframe.

The single rotor AR1000, three blade tidal turbine can produce up to 1 MW of power at water velocity of 2.65 m/s. The tidal turbine's rotor diameter is 18 m, and it stands 22.5 m tall. Total weight is 1500 tonnes.
